Springfield Armory announced the SA-35 4" 9mm on April 7, 2026. According to Springfield's press release, the new model is a shorter-barreled version of the SA-35, which is based on John Moses Browning's P-35 design.
What Was Announced
The 4-inch SA-35 keeps the core design of the existing SA-35 line and swaps in a shorter barrel. Springfield says it is made in the United States. The slide, frame, and barrel are all forged steel.
The release points to several changes from the original P-35 layout. The SA-35 has a recontoured hammer meant to reduce the risk of hammer bite, an extended thumb safety, and a magazine that holds 15 rounds instead of 13. The barrel has an improved feed ramp, which Springfield says is intended for reliable feeding of current defensive loads.

What It Means for Gun Owners
For shooters who liked the SA-35 but wanted a more compact pistol, this is the main point of the release. Springfield's marketing VP Steve Kramer described the model as keeping the same appeal in a smaller, faster-handling package. The release does not include independent testing, so handling and reliability claims should be checked against hands-on reports once the pistol is in more shooters' hands.
Bottom Line
The SA-35 4" 9mm is a new barrel length in an existing line, priced at $799. Anyone interested in the model can find more information on Springfield Armory's website.
