Springfield Armory has announced three new 1911 pistols with the Aimpoint COA closed-emitter red dot already mounted. The release covers a 4.25-inch 1911 DS Prodigy in 9mm and two 5-inch models in .45 ACP. The pistols follow the company's earlier COA-equipped Echelon 9mm. What Was Announced
The three pistols are the 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25-inch COA 9mm, the 1911 TRP COA .45 ACP, and the 1911 Operator COA .45 ACP. Each comes milled at the factory for the Aimpoint A-CUT interface, which mounts the optic into a full-length dovetail in the slide. The A-CUT uses a front hook and rear wedge, and the company says the wedge transfers lateral force into the dovetail to reduce stress on screws.
Key Details
- 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25-inch COA 9mm (PH9117COA): MSRP $1,955, 18+1 capacity with two included magazines, forged steel frame with polymer grip module
- 1911 TRP COA .45 ACP (PC9125LRCOA): MSRP $2,424, 5-inch barrel, black Cerakote finish, forged slide and frame, accessory rail, 20 LPI front strap checkering, two eight-round magazines, top slide serrations
- 1911 Operator COA .45 ACP (PO9230COA): MSRP $1,623, 5-inch barrel, G10 grips, ambidextrous safety, two eight-round magazines with bumper pads, forward cocking serrations
- Aimpoint COA optic: 3.5 MOA red dot, 7075-T6 aluminum housing, four night vision-compatible settings and eight daylight settings, rated submersible to 25 meters, 15x15mm lens, 1.7 oz, runs more than five years on a single CR2032 battery
- Sight height: ultra-low mount allows co-witnessing with iron sights
The company lists the optic's MSRP at $617, which puts the savings at nearly $200 compared with buying the pistol and optic separately.
What It Means for Gun Owners
These are factory-optic-ready 1911s, so buyers do not need a gunsmith to fit a red dot. The Prodigy adds double-stack capacity to the 1911 platform, and the two .45 models offer different setups: the TRP with an accessory rail and the Operator with G10 grips and an ambidextrous safety.
Bottom Line
Springfield is bundling its 1911 platform with an Aimpoint COA optic at a price below the separate purchase total. Shooters interested in a red dot on a 1911 without aftermarket mounting work now have three factory options.
