Springfield Armory has released its Central Operating Group (COG) as a standalone component, the serialized foundation of the modular Echelon platform. Buyers can now build a pistol around the COG by pairing it with their choice of grip module, slide, barrel, sights, magazines and accessories. The full release is available in the Springfield Armory's press release.
What Was Announced
The COG is sold as a separate serialized part, so it can be used with compatible OEM and aftermarket components to assemble a complete pistol. The company says the part is built around the operating core of the existing Echelon.
Key Details
- Model: Echelon Central Operating Group, EC9900-RET
- MSRP: $295
- UPC: 706397012373
- Grip module options: Compact, Full-Size with Compact Dust Cover (designed for a 4.0" slide), and Full-Size
- Slide options: 4.0" or 4.5", standard or integrally compensated
- Construction: Stainless steel, with trigger components machined from tool steel
- Safety feature: Second sear design intended to help prevent unintentional discharge if the firearm is dropped
- Transfer: Must be shipped to and transferred through an FFL
What It Means for Gun Owners
Because the COG is serialized, it can be bought separately from the rest of the pistol, which gives owners a way to configure an Echelon around their own grip size, slide length and sight setup. Anyone planning a build should confirm which grip and slide combinations are compatible before ordering parts. Aftermarket options are also referenced, though the release does not name specific vendors.
Bottom Line
The standalone COG at $295 lets Echelon owners and builders assemble custom configurations from one serialized core. Check FFL transfer requirements and component compatibility before buying.
