Northrop Grumman and Barrett Firearms have signed a teaming agreement to produce the weapon portion of the Precision Grenadier System (PGS), a shoulder-fired 25mm grenade launcher. According to Barrett's press release, the announcement was dated October 12, 2026.
What Was Announced
Under the agreement, Barrett will build the launcher and integrate an inductive setter. That setter lets the operator program Northrop Grumman's 25mm family of ammunition. Northrop Grumman continues to develop the PGS and its ammunition for domestic and international customers.
Key Details
- Weapon type: shoulder-fired, 25mm grenade launcher
- Manufacturer of the weapon: Barrett, at its Nashville, Tennessee facility
- Ammunition: Northrop Grumman's 25mm suite, programmed through an inductive setter
- Stated targets: enemies in defilade, close-quarters battle, and small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS)
What It Means for Gun Owners
The PGS is a military program, and this deal does not change anything for civilian buyers. It does show Barrett, best known for large-caliber precision rifles, moving further into military weapons production alongside a major defense contractor.
Bottom Line
Barrett and Northrop Grumman are combining Barrett's manufacturing with Northrop Grumman's PGS and ammunition development. The release gives no timeline for fielding or pricing.
