Outdoor Life reviewer Tyler Freel tested the Bergara BMR Carbon in .22 LR, and his findings are reported on Bergara's press release page. Freel concluded the rifle works well for plinking, hunting, and precision rimfire competition.
Key Details
- Action: Shortened B-14 style action, which Freel describes as essentially a Remington 700 clone
- Optics mounting: One-piece Picatinny scope base with 30 MOA of built-in elevation
- Trigger: Remington 700 pattern single-stage, user-adjustable, factory set at 2 lb 10 oz
- Accuracy: 39 five-shot groups at 50 yards across six ammunition types, with and without a suppressor
- Average group size: 0.928 inches; best 10 groups averaged 0.515 inches
- Most accurate load tested: Old Remington Eley match, averaging 0.577 inches over six unsuppressed groups
What It Means for Gun Owners
Freel reports the action ran smoothly even in sub-freezing temperatures. He found the rifle a relief after shooting larger calibers and said its handling feels close to a centerfire hunting rifle. He also noted that the BMR could serve as an entry point into precision rimfire competition without giving up practical use.
Bottom Line
Freel was not blown away by the rifle for the price, but he felt the cost was justified by its accuracy and handling. For shooters who want a handy, accurate .22 that feels like a hunting rifle and is not overtly tactical, the BMR Carbon is a reasonable option to consider.
